Q: Why is a Burntech fireplace a smart choice?
A: A Burntech fireplace gives you a true masonry fireplace for your outdoor living space – no unsightly metal boxes that diminish the overall appearance and rust over time.  Our patented modular construction is code compliant and virtually eliminates accessibility issues.

Q: Why choose Burntech over constructing a traditional masonry fireplace?
A: The modular design of a Burntech fireplace makes installation about a 4 hour project versus 3-4 days using traditional methods.  Burntech fireplaces are much lighter, providing more flexibility when installing.  With labor costs at a premium, Burntech fireplaces provide the same functionality and look at a lower cost.

Q: What materials can be used to finish a Burntech outdoor fireplace?
A: You are limited only by your imagination.  The choice of material is custom to each application.  Common choices include: stone, brick, veneers, ledge stone, concrete block, pavers, plaster, stucco, etc.

Q: Since the fireplace is lighter, how thick of a concrete slab/foundation is required?
A: Most Burntech fireplaces can be installed on a 6” concrete slab for outdoor living applications in southern California.  Still, always confirm depth with your local building department prior to installation.

Q: Can I burn wood and/or gas?
A: Burntech fireplaces are designed for burning gas and wood.  However, certain cities require using gas only.  Contact your local building department for specific installations.  Use only vented gas logs with 50,000-100,000 BTU’s.

Q: Are city and county building departments familiar with Burntech fireplaces?
A: Yes.  Burntech is listed with ICC and PFS testing agency.  If your local building department is not familiar with Burntech fireplaces, please contact us to obtain necessary installation documentation.

Q: How far away does the fireplace need to be from homes, patio covers, trees, etc.?
A: We recommend 15’ clearance be maintained for a typical installation.  Local regulations may be different, so contact your local building department prior to installation.

Q: Can I install a Burntech fireplace beneath a covered patio or eve?
A: For installations beneath covered patios or eve’s you must use a Burntech TFS fireplace designed for indoor/outdoor use. The chimney must extend a minimum of 3 feet above any structures within 10 feet of the chimney. The fireplace will require a Concrete foundation, framing, “Class A chimney”, and all of the requirements for a typical indoor fireplace with the exception of the damper and outside air intake as they are not required in most situations.  Refer to the installation guide or contact Burntech for more information.

Q: Can you install stone, manufactured stone, brick, or stucco directly onto a Burntech fireplaces?
A: Yes.  Stone and brick may be clad directly onto the fireplace with thin set or mortar.  We recommend that the fireplace surface be slightly moistened first to ensure a good bond between the veneer and the fireplace.  For plaster and stucco, we recommend a 3/8” thick brown coat be applied prior to plaster or stucco application.

Q: What is the framing clearance for combustible materials?
A: Burntech fireplaces cannot have direct contact with any type of combustible material.  Framing clearances of 2” are required. Refer to the Burntech installation guide for more specific information.

Q: Can Burntech fireplaces be modified?
A: Certain modifications can be performed at our factory prior to shipment.  Any modifications performed in the field without prior written approval from Burntech will void all warranties and may have disastrous results.

Q: How tall can I stack Burntech chimney flue?
A: We do not recommend chimneys higher than 2’ without structural engineering.  Burntech fireplaces have been tested with both masonry chimneys and Class A listed metal chimneys for applications where chimney heights exceed masonry limitations.

Q: Can I apply a wood mantel directly onto a Burntech fireplace?
A: No, combustible material cannot touch the fireplace.  Keep in mind that masonry, stone, and concrete can be attached directly to the fireplace surface.  For more information, see Burntech’s installation guide.

Q: Does my Burntech outdoor fireplace require a damper?
A: No. Outdoor fireplaces do not require a damper

Q: Do Burntech fireplaces have a Warranty?
A: All of Burntech’s Modular Masonry Fireplaces carry a Limited Lifetime Warranty.

Q: Where can I get more information on Burntech fireplaces?
A: Contact Burntech at (818) 564-4253
